Magic Raclette Night

Magic and Valais raclette scraped from the half wheel, as often as you like. Just two evenings: Friday 19 and Saturday 20 February 2027.

We scratch at reality. Raclette comes from the French racler, to scrape. In magic, we scrape away at whatever you are sure of. On this evening we do both.

For two sets of 45 minutes Christian Jedinat performs at the black table, close enough to watch his fingers. It has never helped anyone. In between, the lounge holds three ovens, six half wheels of Raclette du Valais AOP and someone to scrape for you, as often as you like. No little pans, no table grill: in Valais, raclette comes off the half wheel. The cut face melts under the heat, the knife sweeps it onto your plate, and the next layer is already waiting underneath.

The evening: doors open at 7:30 pm with a glass of Fendant or sparkling wine and a Valais platter. 8:00 pm, first set of magic (about 45 minutes). 8:45 pm, raclette break in the lounge: three ovens, six half wheels, scraped as often as you like. 9:40 pm, second set of magic (about 45 minutes). 10:25 pm, meringue with double cream and apricots in Fendant, with an Abricotine AOP (Valais apricot brandy) or a Williams pear brandy, or a black tea if you prefer. The evening ends around 11:00 pm.

Included in your ticket: the Valais platter with air-dried beef, raw ham and shaved cheese, Raclette du Valais AOP as much as you like with jacket potatoes, fresh farmhouse bread, cornichons and silver onions, dessert and all drinks of the evening. Members of the Black Table Club whose names are on our honour board are invited: one special evening a year on the house, with a reserved seat in row 1 or 2. Up to two companions pay half price.

Valais raclette is made from raw milk with animal rennet. For pregnant guests and vegetarians we keep a wheel made from pasteurised milk; just let us know when booking. Raclette is naturally lactose-free and gluten-free.
