Some things shouldn’t be explained. They should be tasted.

The only show that plays in the afternoon begins at a laid table: a fresh little cake from Aachen’s Konditorei Middelberg, with a good coffee. Not an opening that rushes you — one that invites you to lean back before the hands grow quicker than the eye. Magic good enough to eat, savoured at your leisure.

And then, once the fork is set aside, Christian Jedinat comes closer than you’d ever expect from a stage. Close-up magic from right up near: no distance, no false bottoms you could excuse from afar. A card that shouldn’t be there. A thought no one said out loud. A moment in which reality seems, just for an instant, to dissolve into cream.

An afternoon that indulges both senses — the palate and the mind. First you taste, then you marvel, and by the end you’re left with the pleasant suspicion that you’ve just witnessed something that can’t quite be explained.
